Character Analysis

Distance Learning

We started offering distance learning in the 1980s. Because of the vastness of the American West, and the paucity of training institutes outside some big cities, we were asked to teach psychoanalysis to people whose only means of access to us was the phone and the computer.

We have embraced this challenge for over twenty years and have found the benefits to be enormous. Therapists from all over, many of who are working with very difficult patients, get the opportuniity to learn the most effective treatment options. We also benefit from the crossfertilization that comes from interacting with students from diverse communities. The support amongst students is strong, creating a wide community of excited and interested colleagues.

Classes are available through teleconferencing. We find that the connection amongst the students and the instructor in these virtual classrooms to be so strong that it is hard to tell that we are not all in the same room. This demonstrates to what a degree psychoanalysis is primarily a talking experience.

We now have students participating from Alaska to Tennessee, California to Montana, Oregon, and many more.

All classes are available only in real time, and are not recorded for rebroadcast as this would both violate the confidentiality of the students and deprive them of the immediacy of the interaction.

People who are independent and self motivated and who desire flexibilty in their training thrive in our institute without walls.

Distance learners can communicate with faculty, advisors and administrators either by phone or e-mail, allowing for individualized attention to their learning needs.
